Freshfield Ramblers is a walking group for adults of all ages and abilities. Our oldest member is 74.
For members of the committee CLICK HERE. We are affiliated to the Ramblers Association
We actively encourage new walkers as guests, and if they enjoy walking with us, we welcome them to join the club.
Our main activity is a monthly coach trip. For the current walk program CLICK HERE. This is usually on the first or second Sunday in the month and we go to areas such as The Lakes, North Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and North Wales. The coach picks up at various points in Formby, Ainsdale and Southport. For coach pick up points and times CLICK HERE. Once we arrive, there are 3 walks of differing lengths and ability. The shortest walk, the "C" walk, is about 6 or so miles, as much as possible, on the level. The "B" walk tends to be the most popular and is up to 10 miles and can have some steep parts. The "A" walk is up to 15 miles, and usually goes to the top of the nearest hill! All the walks have been carefully researched and are lead by amateur but enthusiastic and experienced walk leaders. The walk leaders are happy to discuss the difficulty of the walks on the coach and help people to choose which is most appropriate for them.
Each year we organise two walking weekends, one staying in a hotel, the other roughing it in a Youth hostel (or similar accommodation).
We have been awarded a lottery grant to fund training courses To view the certificate CLICK HERE.
On occasions we have also arranged walking holidays abroad. Mallorca and Crete have been destinations so far.
An informal social evening is held in the Freshfield Hotel once a month on the Tuesday following the Sunday walk.
We started approximately 18 years ago as the Victoria Ramblers and were attached to the Victoria Sports and Leisure Club in Southport. But in October 2006 we became Freshfield Ramblers, an independent walking group. We are affiliated to the Ramblers Association, and currently have 71 members.
Come and try one of our walks!
