Shunning the obvious, but overly populated, charms of Rombald's Moor (of “Ilkley Moor bah't ‘at” fame) this walk takes in the splendid area of Middleton Moor, north of the town.
Starting in Ilkley itself we initially follow the Dales Way by the side of the River Wharfe towards Addingham, passing through the delightfully reconstructed village of Low Mill – the site of a Luddite rebellion in 1826 (watch out those of the GPS fraternity!).
Crossing the suspension bridge in Addingham we climb steadily to the summit of Beamsley Beacon, where given the usual caveats great views towards Bolton Abbey and Blubberhouse Moor can be had.
A superb high-level traverse of the moor to Round Hill is then followed by a descent towards March Gill Reservoir and Primrose Hill.
We then descend through delightful woods and fields to meet the Wharfe again which leads via a riverside path back to Ilkley. |

| This is a circular walk to see many of the interesting rock features of Ilkley Moor.
We hope that it is not baht ‘at, especially in November. (Full words to the song will be provided if anyone wants to give a full rendition from the top!)
After climbing from the town of Ilkley our first visit could be a coffee stop at White Wells before visiting the Cow and Calf rocks.
We continue over Rombalds Moor in a clockwise direction via the Twelve Apostles, the trig point at 1,350feet, the wireless station, West Buck Stones and the Swastika Stone.
On a fine day we should have a good view from all these points.

| Leaving the coach in the centre of Ilkley we climb steadily up to Coe andD Calf Rocks and onwards to just below Iilkley Crags on the edge of Ilkley Moor.
There we are able to join an undulating track heading in westerly direction.
This soon becomes the Millennium Way and gives us fine views overlooking the town of Ilkley.
Continuing along the ridgeline we pass the Swastika Stone and almost reach the Noon Stone.
With our climbing now complete we descend off the ridge go through a series of farms and then cross the busy A65 main road to reach the River Wharfe.
We now join a section of Dales Way, which we follow back to Ilkley and the coach.

After leaving Ilkley we head west alongside the River Wharfe, passing through the “old” village of Low Mill before reaching Addingham, where drivers are warned to be careful of kamikaze ducks criss-crossing the road outside the fish & chip shop.
Transferring to the north bank of the Wharfe by means of the suspension bridge we continue our circuit through Nesfield Village and Owler Park Wood before rejoining the river to return to Ilkley. |
